SHANYU DESIGN STUDIO is a multidisciplinary design practice based in Shanghai, working across architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, exhibition design, and creative spatial experiences. The name “Shanyu” (山隅) represents a place at the edge of the mountain—a quiet yet inspiring point of observation. “Yixun” (意寻) reflects the pursuit of meaning, emotion, and possibility within design. Together, they embody our belief that every project begins with exploration and grows through thoughtful discovery. Founded by a team of designers from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds, SHANYU embraces the collision of different perspectives, disciplines, and experiences. We believe that meaningful design emerges through dialogue—between people and space, tradition and innovation, local context and global vision. Our practice is driven by curiosity, creativity, and a deep respect for place. Rather than pursuing a fixed style, we seek to uncover the unique character of every project, responding to its environment, function, and human experience. Through research, observation, and design experimentation, we create spaces that are both purposeful and emotionally engaging. As a young and evolving studio, we actively explore new forms of collaboration across architecture, art, branding, culture, and emerging industries. We view design as a bridge—connecting ideas, communities, and experiences—to create lasting value beyond the physical environment.
