BEYOND ACADEMIA: Career Day for PhD & Postdoc

Beyond Academia is Politecnico di Milano’s Career Day dedicated to PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers and recent PhD graduates interested in exploring professional opportunities outside academia. During the day, you will have the opportunity to attend seminars, meet and exchange views with PhD and Postdoc Alumni, and take part in individual interviews with companies and organizations interested in profiles with a research background.

Building Careers Beyond Academia: PhD & Postdoc Stories
Round table with PhD and Postdoc Alumni who will share their professional journeys beyond academia.

 

Speakers currently planned:

 

  • Andrea Taverna, Senior Service Designer, Logotel: holds a PhD in Service Design from Politecnico di Milano. At Logotel, he focuses on organizational transformation through service design. He also coordinates Service Design Drinks Milan, a community that connects practitioners and fosters design culture; 
  • Antonella Di Trapani, Senior Research Fellow, United Nations University – Postdoc in Chemistry | Trinity College;
  • Lucia Rubino, R&D specialist - Raw Materials Development, Pirelli: graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology from the University of Catania, she expanded her scientific expertise from pharmaceuticals to materials by completing a Ph.D. in Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano (in collaboration with Pirelli), followed by a year of post-doc research; 
  • Giovanni Amedeo Cirillo, Staff Digital Design Engineer, STMicroelectronics: PhD in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering from Politecnico di Torino. At STMicroelectronics, he works on systems engineering and hardware architectures for digital signal processing, applied to Consumer and Automotive products.

Beyond the CV: How Employers Assess Research Talent
Round table dedicated to how companies, organizations, and recruiters evaluate PhD and Postdoc profiles.
The session will help participants understand which research skills are most valued and how to effectively present their academic background in CVs and interviews.

  • Carlos Fernandez San Milan, Head of ICT & Digitisation  Human Technopole: leads technology strategy, cybersecurity, and digital transformation. With over 20 years of experience, he enables innovation and supports world-class scientific research;
  • Matteo Zanchi, Co-founder / CEO Enersem;
  • Carlo Paci, HR&O Manager Ariston Group;
  • Giovanni Li Rosi, Senior Business Developer Manager | Technology and engineering Services – TMC Italia;
  • Serenella Sala, Head of Unit Sustainable Supply Chains & Bioeconomy – Joint Research Center | European Commission: leads research and policy support on sustainable resource use, supply chains, and the transition to a circular and bio-based economy. An environmental scientist with a PhD in Ecotoxicology and Applied Ecology, she is internationally recognised for her work on life cycle assessment and sustainability metrics.

Afternoon - Individual meetings with employers

 

From 14:00 to 18:00 | Leonardo Campus – Building 13 | Trifoglio, Spazio vetrato


One-to-one interviews with companies and organizations at dedicated desks.
Each meeting will last approximately 30 minutes.

 

When registering, you will be able to indicate which activities you would like to attend.

 

After registration, the Career Service will send you an email with a form to complete. In the form, you will be asked to indicate:

  1. research area;
  2. professional interests;
  3. employers you would like to meet.
